VORTEX: the new SITEP technology that revolutionizes flow meters

All SITEP flow meters are equipped with this innovative measuring system which eliminates the presence of moving mechanical parts and therefore drastically reduces the risk of damage to the parts.

The VORTEX sensor, measuring the water flow rate via a sensor without mechanical components, is more reliable while maintaining a very high standard of counting precision (1% margin of error).

Advantages:

    • Minimal flow obstruction: low pressure drop
    • High long-term stability and no zero-drift
    • Solid-state flow sensor for water without moving mechanical parts: no mechanical wear
    • Body made of plastic reinforced with fiberglass which guarantees maximum resistance and high performance
    • Piezoceramic sensorfully encapsulated to detect vortices: protected from humidity and mechanical stress
  • Integrated temperature sensor
  • High resistance to interference
  • Wet parts free of metal

How It Works

  1. BARRIER: Alternating vortices rotating in opposite directions are generated behind a barrier immersed in a flow
  2. VORTEX FLOW: Vortices detach from the edges of the barrier forming a Kármán vortex road in the water flow. The distance between individual vortices is constant
  3. SENSOR: The frequency of vortices flowing past the sensor depends on the flow rate and is proportional to the flow.
  4. PULSE: The sensor detects these vortices which are then converted into an electrical frequency signal. The recorded frequency is equivalent to the volume of water passed through the measuring tube at that particular moment

Some of the advantages of this measurement principle:

  • Minimal flow obstruction: low pressure drop
  • High long-term stability and no zero-drift
